OpenAI launches its AI agent, Operator, in multiple countries.

21 Feb, 2025

Operator will be accessible in most regions where ChatGPT is available, except for the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland.

Launched in January in the U.S., Operator is part of a growing range of "AI agent" tools that can be used to carry out tasks such as booking tickets, making restaurant reservations, filing expense reports, or shopping online.

The tool is currently exclusive to subscribers of the $200-per-month ChatGPT Pro plan. It is only accessible through a dedicated webpage, though OpenAI has stated that it intends to make Operator available to all ChatGPT users. Operator operates in a separate browser window, which users can control at any time, to complete tasks.

There is significant competition in this area, with companies like Google, Anthropic, and Rabbit developing agents capable of performing similar tasks. However, Google’s project is still in a waitlist phase, Anthropic offers its agentic interface via an API, and Rabbit’s action model is only available to those who own its device.
